Home Gaming Dota 2 vs. League of Legends: Updating the numbers. Viewership The most recent data showcasing League viewership came from the LCS World Championship where League boasted an all-time recording breaking viewership.
First, you can kill your own Creeps Minions in League when their HP is low, which effectively denies the opposing Hero in your lane the chance to earn more Gold.
This immediately makes early-game in Dota 2 much harder. Second, you can kill ally Heroes who have been inflicted with negative effects that are draining their HP, like poison, as long as their HP are low enough.
This denies whoever inflicted the spell the experience and Gold from the impending kill. This also prevents the would-be Tower last-hitter to gain a huge amount of gold.
In League , you can use bushes to hide, usually when setting up an ambush or a gank. In Dota 2 , the environment plays an even greater role.
Aside from being able to chop down trees and gain an advantage when attacking from a higher ground as a long-range Hero, certain Heroes are more powerful during daytime or nighttime.
Also, in League , Champions instantly turn around when prompted. In Dota 2 , Heroes actually have a turn-around animation, making them appear more sluggish.
League is arguably more popular than Dota 2 , with more frequent tournaments. Summoner spells do not exist in Dota 2, as these choices are more dependent on the Hero you pick and the role you are playing.
Roles are predetermined in LoL before a game begins, but this is entirely different in Dota 2 with roles being a lot more flexible. Most Heroes can play more than one role, enabling teams to switch up their compositions midgame.
Support Heroes are used differently in the two games — in Dota 2 the support Heroes are the ones making the plays and starting the engagements, whereas in LoL they are used predominantly to support the ADC.
With their only being five champions per team every match and nine different roles, no two games of Dota 2 are the same. In LoL, each Champion has four abilities — three unique basic abilities and one ultimate ability that can be used upon reaching level six.
In Dota 2 the majority of Heroes have three unique basic abilities and their ultimate, however, certain Heroes can have a much larger number of abilities, which makes the overall game mechanics of those Heroes complicated for example, the Hero Invoker is seen as one of the more complicated Heroes to control in the game with a staggering 14 abilities.
Another major difference between LoL and Dota 2 is talents. In Dota 2, talents are traits unique to each Hero that become available every five levels and are separate from regular abilities that you put points into each level.
From level 10, it provides a buff to Heroes attributes, additional gold, or experience gain. It can also boost Heroes abilities, adding a new dynamic to the game.
It is essential to understand the specific differences between the two games in order to have the chance of lucrative rewards when betting on them.
As detailed throughout, simply having an overall understanding of MOBAs cannot replace a deep knowledge and it is, therefore, important that the differences between the two are understood, as without them you may come into difficulties when betting on either Dota 2 or LoL.

Dota 2 is certainly not a small title, but Valve doesn't put nearly enough effort into marketing while almost every platform is flooded by ads for League of Legends.
People usually know Dota 2 due to The International as the event has the biggest prize pool for a single tournament, but not for much else.
The point here goes to LoL as Riot Games has done an outstanding job over the year to keep the game in the headlights.
The company is even doing it again with Valorant, which, despite being in closed beta, is one of the most talked-about games in current times.
In-game, however, there are some differences, especially in the fights. Here is something particularly noticeable in the gaming experience: the hero abilities in LoL are weaker but have a much lower cooldown.
This means more action but less influence of individual actions. In Dota 2, it's the exact opposite: spells have a much longer cooldown on average but even non-ultimate abilities can dictate a team fight.
Furthermore, Dota 2 has buybacks, allowing you to spend gold in order to instantly revive instead of waiting. This strategic component can be used to often fool enemies into overextending and then catching them off-guard.
In pub matches, LoL and Dota 2 can be an absolute slaughter-fest, but there's definitely more action going on in League.
Dota 2, on the other hand, will reward you for your patience and thinking ahead. If your cup of tea is fast-paced combat and more action, then you'll probably enjoy LoL more.
As someone who has played both titles, I prefer Dota 2. The game is not as hard to learn as everyone says and it can be tons of fun as long as you don't get too invested which may lead to frustration.
If you've only played one of the two MOBAs, I strongly recommend that you try the other one so you get a more objective view. If you don't agree with our comparison, feel free to voice your opinion in a comment.
